PJ Productora's 'Las Troyanas' Wins Michoacán Classic Theatre Grant

The Euripides tragedy “Las Troyanas,” staged by the theatre company PJ Productora, was unanimously selected as the winner of the third Teatro Clásico 2026 competition organized by the Secretaría de Cultura of Michoacán. The jury—Gustavo Emmanuel Álvarez Lugo, Georgina González Domínguez and José Ramón García Pérez—cited the production’s artistic strength and its critical dialogue with the social realities of the region.

The award provides 130,000 pesos to support the play’s production and five scheduled performances in the state. The decision was witnessed by officials from the Department of Theatre, a legal liaison, and a notary public. Competing projects included “El médico a palos,” “Romeo y Julieta,” and “Otelo.” Dates and venues for the performances will be announced later by the cultural authority.
