PKK and Baznas Central Java launch culinary training for poverty alleviation
The PKK Driving Team and the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Central Java have launched a culinary training program aimed at empowering cadres from villages experiencing extreme poverty. Held in Semarang from August 22 to 24, 2026, the three-day workshop provided hundreds of participants with practical skills in processing food ingredients into high-value economic products, such as fish skin crackers.
Nawal Arafah Yasin, Chairperson of the Central Java PKK Driving Team, stated that the initiative is a continuous program designed to transform participants from aid recipients into entrepreneurs and zakat payers (muzakki). The program also seeks to strengthen the 'Kapulaga' (Family-Based Business Group) initiative. To ensure long-term success, the organizers emphasized the need for ongoing assistance to help these small businesses obtain necessary certifications, including home industry food permits (PIRT) and halal certificates.
