PKK announces withdrawal of forces from Turkey and northern Iraq

The PKK has announced the completion of its withdrawal of armed forces from Turkish territory and border areas in northern Iraq. The group stated that this move is part of its strategy to end armed struggle and transition toward democratic political engagement.

As part of this withdrawal, the group reported evacuating four war tunnels and strategic positions in the Metina region, located west of Zap. The PKK emphasized that these actions are intended to prevent the Turkish state from using these positions as a pretext for continued military confrontation.

The group also issued a call for the release of Abdullah Öcalan, asserting that there are no longer any remaining obstacles to his freedom. Furthermore, the PKK criticized the Turkish government for failing to take necessary legislative steps regarding the Framework Law and broader democratic processes required to advance the peace process.
