PKK leader Murat Karagilan discusses disarmament and regional conflict

Murat Karagilan, a leading figure of the PKK, has characterized the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as a regional manifestation of a ‘Third World War’ driven by capitalist powers seeking global dominance. In an interview with The Amargi, Karagilan argued that while the conflict is being framed as a regional struggle between sectarian or national interests, it is fundamentally part of a broader global competition involving major powers like the US, China, and Russia.

Karagilan also addressed the organization’s movement toward disarmament and withdrawal. He stated that the PKK is moving to vacate bases in northern Iraq, specifically the Metina region, following internal dialogue. Furthermore, he claimed that orders were issued for special forces on ‘secret missions’ to withdraw from Istanbul and other Turkish cities.

Regarding the peace process, Karagilan emphasized that the goal is to end hostilities through a bilateral approach rather than a unilateral disarmament. He noted that while representatives have met with state officials, no external mediators such as the UN, EU, or US are currently involved in the process.
