PKP Cargo seeks 1.522 billion PLN in damages from the Polish State

PKP Cargo, currently undergoing restructuring, has filed a motion with the District Court in Warsaw to resume suspended proceedings regarding a compensation claim against the Polish State Treasury. The company is seeking 1.522 billion PLN in damages.

The lawsuit stems from the implementation of the so-called ‘coal decision’ issued by the Prime Minister in July 2022. This mandate required the carrier to transport coal purchased abroad by PGE Paliwa and Węglokoks.

The motion to resume the proceedings follows a period of suspension intended to facilitate amicable settlement discussions between the parties. PKP Cargo noted that resuming the court process does not prevent ongoing negotiations aimed at reaching a peaceful resolution.
