PKP Intercity selects four finalists for high-speed train tender

PKP Intercity has advanced to the final stage of a competitive dialogue regarding the procurement of high-speed trains for Poland. Four major entities have been qualified for this stage: the consortium of PESA Bydgoszcz and Hitachi Rail STS, Alstom Polska, Siemens Mobility, and the Spanish company Talgo.

The contract involves the delivery of 20 electric high-speed train sets, with an option to purchase up to 35 additional units. The project also includes a 30-year maintenance agreement and the design and construction of a modern technical workshop. The new trains are expected to reach speeds between 320 and 350 km/h and will be approximately 200 meters long.

Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak stated that the competitive dialogue is scheduled to begin in September, with the final selection of the contractor expected in June 2027. The trains are intended to feature first and second-class seating, quiet zones, catering facilities, and accommodations for families, passengers with disabilities, and cyclists. The rolling stock must be homologated for operation in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria.
