PKP Intercity tests satellite internet for Pendolino trains

PKP Intercity is conducting passenger-facing tests of satellite internet technology on Pendolino high-speed trains in Poland. Following previous trials using Starlink receivers, the carrier is now testing Kymeta receivers provided by Eutelsat, which utilize the OneWeb multi-orbit network.

Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak stated that the goal is to provide high-quality, uninterrupted connectivity on specific Pendolino routes. Joanna Siecińska, a board member of PKP Intercity, confirmed that the satellite internet service will be free for passengers and will not lead to increased ticket prices.

The current testing phase involving one Pendolino set is expected to continue through December. The results will inform decisions regarding the permanent implementation of a satellite solution and the selection of a long-term provider.
