PKP Intercity to phase out shared-class carriages by 2027

PKP Intercity is set to phase out shared carriages that combine first and second-class compartments by 2027. Currently, 99 such wagons remain in service, but the carrier does not plan to increase their number or continue modernizing them. This decision follows complaints regarding confusing signage, such as inverted numbers that lead passengers to occupy incorrect classes.

In addition to fleet changes, concerns have been raised regarding the quality of service in Poland. Recent data indicates that between March and June, only 68.2% of trains arrived on time, meaning nearly one-third experienced delays. Passengers have noted issues including rising ticket prices, overcrowding, lack of reliable Wi-Fi, and insufficient amenities compared to international standards, such as those seen with ÖBB in Austria.
