PKP PLK announces tender to restore rail connection to Jastrzębie-Zdrój

PKP PLK has launched a tender to rebuild the railway connection to Jastrzębie-Zdrój, a city that has lacked passenger rail service since 2001. The project, estimated at 270 million PLN net, aims to restore travel links to Katowice, Żory, Rybnik, and Pszczyna.

Infrastructure Minister Piotr Malepszak stated that the goal is to connect Jastrzębie-Zdrój to Katowice within 60 minutes. Future plans involving high-speed rail lines could eventually reduce this travel time to approximately 35 minutes. The project includes rebuilding nearly 9 kilometers of track, constructing a new terminal station near Północna and Sybiraków streets, and building an engineering structure over a mining reservoir.

Construction is planned to be completed by the end of 2030. Following the tender opening in early December, the selected contractor will have two months for preparation and 20 months for construction works. The project faces geological challenges due to the post-mining terrain.
