PKR National Congress 2026 focuses on reform and performance politics

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) National Congress 2026 concluded in Melaka, serving as a platform for the party to renew its commitment to the reformasi movement and strengthen its grassroots organization. President Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that the party's strength must remain centered on the interests of the people.

During the congress, PKR Vice President Saifuddin Nasution Ismail urged the party to avoid identity and racial politics, advocating instead for a focus on performance-based politics centered on economic stability and public welfare.

Debates regarding candidate selection also emerged. A proposal was made to name branch leaders as general election candidates early to allow them to build community trust. In response, Vice President Zaliha Mustafa reminded members to respect leadership decisions regarding candidates and warned against boycotting or sabotaging the party if preferred individuals are not selected, citing that ego should not supersede the party's struggle.
