PKS Parliamentary Fraction reviews Indonesia's Citizenship Law revision
The PKS Parliamentary Fraction of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is conducting discussions regarding the proposed revision of the Citizenship Law, specifically focusing on the concept of limited dual citizenship. During a focus group discussion held in Jakarta, the fraction stated it has not yet determined a formal stance, as it is currently gathering input from experts and stakeholders to enrich its study.
Fraction leader Abdul Kharis Almasyhari noted that the group is awaiting the official presidential letter (Surpres) containing the government's draft to begin formal deliberations. The discussions aim to address issues involving the diaspora and strategic talent.
Additionally, lawmaker Yanuar Arif Wibowo emphasized the need for the revised law to provide legal certainty and protection for children with Indonesian blood, particularly those from mixed marriages. He warned against administrative issues causing children to lose their citizenship status and called for a more humane mechanism for those who miss statutory deadlines to choose their citizenship.
