Pál Fürcht testifies before committee regarding Schadl-Völner case
Former Chief Prosecutor Pál Fürcht testified before an investigative committee regarding the Schadl-Völner case and various abuses within the enforcement system. Fürcht stated that the investigation into the case began after an individual associated with Schadl attempted to influence the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV). He described witnessing a hand-off of cash between Schadl and Völner, which was recorded in a public document.
Fürcht testified that he was instructed by Szilvia Tomin, then a high-ranking official in the National Defense Service, to cease the investigation into Völner. However, he noted a chronological discrepancy: while Fürcht claims Tomin relayed instructions to drop the case, Tomin was not appointed as the head of the National Defense Service until May 2022, whereas Völner had already been interrogated as a suspect in December 2021.
Additionally, Fürcht addressed broader systemic abuses, including instances of corruption in university exams and misconduct by enforcement officers. These included an officer requesting inappropriate photographs and attempts by individuals to intimidate people participating in real estate auctions.
