Placer County authorities launch manhunt for armed murder suspect

Authorities in Placer County, California, are conducting an extensive manhunt for 44-year-old Derek Spencer, who is considered armed and extremely dangerous. The search follows a series of violent incidents that began Sunday when Spencer allegedly pointed a firearm at individuals in the region.

During a confrontation in the Iowa Hill area, Spencer reportedly rammed a patrol vehicle and fled into the surrounding wilderness. Law enforcement officials stated that Spencer opened fire on deputies and helicopters providing aerial support, though no officers were injured during the exchange.

While tactical teams were clearing a residence previously visited by the suspect, they discovered the body of an adult woman who had been shot and killed.
