Placer County Veterans Service Office facilitates reunion for brothers separated by 40 years

Two veteran brothers living approximately 3,000 miles apart have reunited via video call for the first time in 40 years. One brother resides in Grass Valley, California, while the other lives in eastern Connecticut. Although the siblings had maintained contact through telephone calls for decades, they had not seen one another visually since the early 1980s.

The reunion was orchestrated by the Placer County Veterans Service Office. Steve Johnson, an officer with the office, noted that the arrangement could support the mental health of both veterans.

To facilitate ongoing visual contact, the county office is currently collaborating with a nonprofit organization to provide both brothers with internet access and tablets, moving their relationship beyond audio-only communication.
