Placide Moudoudou presents new book on Congolese constitutional law

Professor Placide Moudoudou, a public law scholar and constitutional judge, presented his new book, ‘Droit constitutionnel congolais’ (Congolese Constitutional Law), at Marien Ngouabi University on September 8. The 660-page volume, published by Presses universitaires de Brazzaville, examines seven decades of institutional history in the Republic of the Congo.

The work explores themes of statehood, sovereignty, the Constitution, fundamental rights and liberties, and constitutional justice. Moudoudou analyzes the nation's complex legal trajectory, which began with a short-lived Constitution in 1958. Rather than viewing the country's history as a mere series of successive constitutions, the author proposes a thesis of ‘innovation and sedimentation,’ suggesting that each political period and judicial decision contributes to a developing legal framework.
