Plaisir Hospital: Patient killed by roommate in Yvelines

A 77-year-old patient was killed by strangulation on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in the psychogeriatrics department of the Plaisir hospital in the Yvelines region of France.

The assailant, a 63-year-old roommate suffering from cognitive disorders, was discovered by the suspect's own family members during a visit. They reportedly found the man sitting on the victim's body as the attack was occurring. Although hospital staff and security intervened and a doctor on duty attempted resuscitation, the victim was pronounced dead shortly after.

Following the incident, the suspect was taken into custody and presented before the Versailles Judicial Court on Monday, August 24. The public prosecutor, Jean-David Cavaillé, confirmed that an investigation into murder has been opened. Psychiatric experts have been appointed to evaluate the suspect's mental state and capacity for discernment at the time of the act.
