Plan Vale and UAM agree to build container recovery plant
Plan Vale and the Unidad Agroalimentaria Metropolitana (UAM) have signed a strategic agreement to construct a consolidation plant for Uruguay’s Deposit, Return, and Refund System (SDDR). The facility will be located at the UAM and will serve as a central hub for processing, counting, and conditioning beverage containers recovered from across the country via automatic machines and manual channels.
The project represents an investment of approximately US$ 10 million, funded by the companies participating in the system and supervised by the Ministry of Environment. The plant aims to strengthen the recovery of plastic and metal containers, improving traceability and increasing recycling rates to support a national circular economy strategy.
The agreement was signed at the headquarters of the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay (CIU) with representatives from the Ministries of Environment, Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Industry, Energy and Mining in attendance.
