Plan Vale expands recycling infrastructure in Lavalleja

In Lavalleja, Uruguay, the Plan Vale initiative is expanding its waste management infrastructure through the installation of new voluntary recycling points and a selective collection system. The project has recently delivered the first 15 metallic containers, known as “islas,” to the city of Minas. The initiative aims to install a total of 60 containers to strengthen waste classification and formalize workers in the sector.

Plan Vale operates on the principle of extended producer responsibility, involving companies that place packaging on the market and the general public to recover and value materials such as plastic, paper, cardboard, metal, and glass. Local authorities emphasized the need for a cultural shift in how citizens separate and dispose of recyclable waste.
