Planaltina Fair supports family farming in Distrito Federal

The Planaltina Fair in the Distrito Federal operates from Tuesday to Sunday, between 7:00 and 19:00, serving as a vital hub for the local economy. The market is characterized by a high variety of fresh produce, primarily sourced from the region's green belt through family farming.

According to the Brasília Retail Vendors Union (Sindifeira-DF), most products are provided by small-scale farmers from the Distrito Federal and surrounding areas. A key advantage of the fair is the rapid distribution cycle, where many items are harvested and brought to market on the same day, ensuring higher quality and lower costs compared to supermarkets.

Agronomist Rafael Ventorim from Emater-DF noted that minimizing the time between harvest and sale is essential for maintaining freshness and food durability. He specifically highlighted that leafy greens should ideally reach consumers within 24 hours of harvest.
