Planckaert family’s Belgian TV saga returns with new season of ‘Château Planckaert’

The Planckaert family, known for its cycling achievements, became a fixture of Flemish television with the reality series ‘De Planckaerts’ on VTM, which ran from 2003 to 2009 for twelve seasons. After a hiatus, the family revived their on‑screen presence in 2020 with ‘Château Planckaert’ on VRT, documenting the renovation of an old French castle while following their everyday lives. The programme is now in its eighth season and remains popular for its authentic portrayal of family dynamics.

Eddy Planckaert, a former classic‑racing star, faced financial difficulties after his Eastern‑European flooring business failed. Production of the reality series provided a financial lifeline, with negotiations over the series’ fee becoming a notable episode in the family’s story. The continued success of the shows underscores the Planckaerts’ lasting appeal to Belgian audiences.
