Planned Parenthood faces criticism over founder's history

Planned Parenthood's return to New Orleans has drawn criticism regarding the legacy of its founder, Margaret Sanger. Critics point to the organization's own historical records, which state that Sanger spoke to the women's auxiliary of the Ku Klux Klan in 1926 and acknowledged her alignment with White supremacist ideas.

While the organization has denounced Sanger's beliefs, some community members argue that this does not resolve moral debates or address concerns regarding the historical targeting of Black unborn children. Critics are calling for New Orleans to invest in support for Black families and maternal health without requiring the community to overlook the organization's historical ties.
