Plant-based eating trends rise in Belgium and the Netherlands

Plant-based eating is becoming increasingly mainstream in Belgium. According to data from the IVOX-barometer for ProVeg Belgium, the percentage of Belgians identifying as vegetarian or vegan has doubled in the last six years, rising from 3% to 6%. Furthermore, 83% of Belgians now eat at least one vegetarian meal per week, while only 17% consume meat daily.

To support the transition toward plant-based diets, Bio Planet is providing resources for World Vegan Day, including cooking tips and recipes. Despite the growing trend, research indicates that 44% of Belgians feel they lack sufficient knowledge on how to cook plant-based meals. Key nutritional advice emphasizes the importance of replacing meat, fish, dairy, and eggs with protein-rich alternatives such as lentils, chickpeas, tofu, tempeh, and various nuts and seeds to ensure a balanced diet.
