Plant care guide for declining autumn temperatures

As autumn temperatures decline, specific balcony and terrace plants require careful management to avoid irreversible frost damage or stress from improper relocation.

Geraniums are highly sensitive to frost, facing risks when temperatures drop below 7°C. For wintering, they should be moved to bright spaces with temperatures between 10°C and 14°C, accompanied by reduced watering and a complete halt to fertilization. Tropical hibiscus requires temperatures to remain above 10°C; sudden changes in light or temperature during relocation can cause bud loss.

Oleander, a Mediterranean plant, is more resilient but remains at risk in climates like Romania's. While mature specimens may tolerate brief periods down to -5°C if protected with non-woven material, outdoor wintering is generally considered risky. Notably, all parts of the oleander plant are toxic, requiring caution around animals and children.
