Gardening guides for plant propagation and container cultivation

Various gardening techniques for propagating and cultivating plants at home are highlighted, ranging from succulents to herbs and perennials.

Succulents such as Echeveria, Sedum, and Crassula can be propagated using leaves or cuttings. A specific method involves placing a healthy leaf in water to observe root development, provided the cut is allowed to callus first to prevent rot. Tradescantia can be multiplied by using stem segments that contain nodes, which can be rooted in either water or soil.

For herbs and perennials, container gardening is recommended for certain species to manage growth. Mint is best suited for pots to prevent it from spreading aggressively in garden beds. Lavender and Mediterranean herbs like rosemary and thyme benefit from containers to ensure superior drainage and soil control, protecting them from moisture-related root issues. Additionally, semi-woody cuttings from lavender, rosemary, and sage taken in late summer are ideal for creating new plants.
