Planta Managua implements acoustic encapsulation to reduce noise

The Nicaraguan government, through the Empresa Nicaragüense de Electricidad (ENEL), has completed an acoustic encapsulation project at the Planta Managua (PMA) power plant. The initiative specifically targeted generation units 4 and 5, which utilize Wärtsilä technology.

The project lasted approximately 11 months and involved constructing a total acoustic enclosure around the machine house. This included building structures on all four sides and replacing the entire roof to optimize sound insulation. The system utilizes a multi-layer design featuring high-density gypsum panels to provide mass and rigidity, alongside porous sound-absorbing materials like acoustic foams to reduce reverberation.

The goal of the installation is to reduce noise pollution, improve operational efficiency, and protect the health of workers and residents in the surrounding neighborhoods while ensuring environmental sustainability.
