When managing terrace plants, the shape of planters can influence water drainage efficiency. While shape alone does not dictate drainage, it directs the flow of water through the substrate.

Rectangular planters typically offer more distributed drainage points and a wide base, which can create preferential paths toward holes and reduce stagnant water pockets. In contrast, round planters often concentrate drainage holes in the center, which may lead to radial flow that leaves peripheral areas more humid, especially with dense roots or compact soil. However, deeper round containers can utilize increased gravitational pressure to assist moisture descent.
