Travel industry sees rise in early bookings and long-term world cruises

The travel and tourism sector is seeing significant shifts in consumer behavior, characterized by a move toward early bookings and long-term travel. Alltours reports that advance bookings for the 2026/27 winter season are in the double-digit percentage range compared to the previous year, as travelers seek early-bird discounts to offset rising costs.

There is a growing trend among entrepreneurs and the ‘Best Ager’ demographic for long-duration world cruises and expedition voyages. Companies like plantours are launching 147-day world cruises on the MS Hamburg, visiting remote areas such as the Antarctic, the South Pacific, and the Panama Canal. Similarly, Swan Hellenic is targeting niche markets in the Asia-Pacific region with its SH Minerva, accessing locations like Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands that are inaccessible to larger vessels.

In the bus travel segment, Eberhardt Travel is expanding its offerings with 100 new trips planned through 2028, focusing on regional tours in Europe and specialized health and accessibility travel. Overall, the industry is responding to a demand for more structured, high-quality, and long-term travel experiences as a means of stress prevention and lifestyle fulfillment.
