Italy environmental initiatives drive waste cleanup and ecological education

Various environmental initiatives are underway across Italy, focusing on waste reduction, biodiversity, and ecological education. The Plastic Free Onlus national campaign, Sea & Rivers, resulted in the collection of over 52 tonnes of waste nationwide. Regional efforts included the removal of 3.4 tonnes in Puglia, nearly 5 tonnes in Abruzzo, 3.8 tonnes in Calabria, and 184 kg in Molise. In Palmi, volunteers and divers recovered 100 kg of waste, including submerged metal from the seabed.

Educational programs are also targeting younger generations. Sanb Spa has launched the second edition of RuBiTeCo, an environmental competition for high school students in Corato, Ruvo di Puglia, Bitonto, and Terlizzi. Additionally, the Green Game initiative is bringing circular economy lessons to schools across Italy.

The WWF is promoting its Urban Nature event, which highlights the importance of urban biodiversity and pollinators. The campaign includes activities in various cities, such as Teramo, Lecco, and Campobasso, to encourage the integration of nature into urban environments to improve public health and climate resilience. Meanwhile, the brand LEGAMI released its 2025 Sustainability Report, detailing investments in environmental protection and social welfare.
