Plastic processing advances with new shredding tech and AI
Developments in plastic processing technology are advancing through both mechanical innovation and artificial intelligence. Getecha, an Aschaffenburg-based plant engineering company, is introducing new shredding technologies designed to improve material recycling. Their RS 38060 cutting mill features an innovative HHS feeding system that allows for the direct processing of voluminous hollow bodies, such as blow-molded parts, without the need for prior shredding or additional conveyor stages.
In parallel, researchers at the University of Augsburg have developed an AI-driven tool to optimize the injection molding process. By combining physical models with artificial intelligence, the team led by Professor Nils Meyer has created a software solution capable of performing complex calculations in seconds. This approach is reportedly up to 100 times faster than traditional simulation software, allowing manufacturers to validate component geometries and cooling processes more efficiently during the early stages of product development.
