Platanias Mayor proposes four measures to support Greek municipalities

During a meeting of the Environment Committee of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) in Lamia, Ioannis Malandrakis, the Mayor of Platanias, presented four key proposals aimed at enhancing the economic and energy autonomy of local authorities.

The first proposal calls for the redistribution of revenues from the Climate Crisis Resilience Fee directly to municipalities. Malandrakis noted that local governments, particularly in tourist-heavy areas, bear significant costs for infrastructure maintenance, civil protection, and climate change mitigation without receiving adequate resources.

Secondly, he emphasized the need to prioritize the allocation of electrical space to Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) within municipalities and municipal enterprises to reduce operational costs.

The third and fourth points focus on the utilization of renewable energy sources and the protection of municipal property, specifically addressing concerns in Crete regarding the potential challenge of ownership status due to forest maps.
