Plateau State: Gunmen kill multiple people in mining site attacks
Gunmen have launched a series of violent attacks across Plateau State, Nigeria, targeting mining sites and rural communities. In Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, multiple incidents have resulted in significant casualties. At a mining site in Lajam Marit village, at least six people were killed and two others injured during an attack by gunmen on motorcycles.
Separate attacks in the Rakum community also claimed the lives of three women and left another person wounded. In other parts of the state, including Mangu and Bokkos, coordinated raids have resulted in at least 11 deaths, the destruction of farmlands, and the burning of homes, churches, and food barns.
Despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed by Governor Caleb Mutfwang in several local government areas, the violence has persisted. Security forces, including troops from Operation Enduring Peace, have intensified patrols and intelligence-led operations to de-escalate tensions and identify the perpetrators. No group has officially claimed responsibility for the recent wave of killings.
