Plateau Governor declares Hisbah activities illegal in Jos North

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has declared the activities of a group operating as Hisbah in parts of the Jos North Local Government Area to be illegal and unauthorized. The directive follows reports that members of the group have been intimidating, harassing, and extorting residents, as well as imposing rules not sanctioned by the state government.

Mutfwang has ordered security agencies to immediately halt these activities, identify those involved, and investigate anyone suspected of sponsoring or aiding the group. The Governor emphasized that Plateau State operates under a single constitution and legal system, stating, “No individual or group has the authority to appoint itself the government of Plateau State.”

The administration clarified that the crackdown is not directed at any specific religion, ethnic group, or community, but is instead focused on maintaining lawful authority and protecting all residents from unauthorized enforcement bodies.
