30 killed in Kaduna village attack by armed gunmen

On July 27, 2024, armed gunmen stormed Naridon village in the Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, northwestern Nigeria. Residents said the attackers opened fire indiscriminately, killing at least 30 people – including eight children – and injuring several others. The assailants also set houses and shops ablaze, destroying property worth millions of naira and leaving many families homeless.

No group has claimed responsibility for the assault. The Kaduna State government condemned the killing, announced plans to intensify security operations and provide humanitarian relief, and urged the federal authorities to improve road access to the community, which officials say delayed emergency response. Amnesty International also condemned the attack, calling for stronger protection of rural populations.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenge posed by bandits, criminal gangs and insurgent groups in northwestern and north‑central Nigeria, where villages are repeatedly targeted by armed raids.
