Plateau State road crash kills 20 people
At least 20 people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Friday evening along the Hawan Kibo-Jos route in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. The accident occurred near the Hawan Kibo bend, a steep and hilly stretch of road.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported that the crash involved four vehicles: a Howo Sino truck, a Toyota Bummer bus operated by Yankari Express, a Toyota Corolla, and a motorcycle. Preliminary investigations indicate that the truck suffered brake failure while descending a hill, causing it to lose control and collide with other vehicles.
Reports indicate that 18 occupants of the commercial bus were killed after the impact caused the vehicle to catch fire. The remaining fatalities included two individuals on a motorcycle and two people in the truck. Five other individuals sustained injuries and were evacuated to Ryom General Hospital and Vom Christian Hospital for medical treatment. The deceased were transported to the JUTH Mortuary.
