Plateau State violence leaves 27 dead, including a pastor
At least 27 Christians were killed in a series of attacks across several communities in Plateau State, Nigeria, between September 13 and September 20. The violence affected communities including Bokkos, Riyom, Barkin Ladi, and Mangu.
On the morning of Sunday, September 20, Pastor Samuel Nandi was killed while traveling to a church service in the Maraban Kantoma area of the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. His son was also shot during the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Local reports and eyewitnesses from the International Committee on Nigeria (ICON) noted continued gunfire in the areas of Maraban Kantoma, Rapwomol, and Shurum following the pastor's death. Residents in the Darwat community also reported seeing a drone, which they feared was being used for surveillance by armed groups preparing for further attacks.
