Platense defeats Independiente 1-0 in Martín Palermo's return

Club Atlético Platense secured a 1-0 victory against Independiente in Avellaneda during the fourth round of the 2026 Torneo Clausura. Guido Mainero scored the decisive goal in the 64th minute of the match, capitalizing on a defensive error by Independiente goalkeeper Rodrigo Rey.

The win marks the first victory for Martín Palermo in his second stint as Platense manager. Despite the result, Palermo urged caution, stating, “The triumph must not confuse us,” noting that the team had limited preparation time due to poor weather conditions.

The victory ends a 14-match winless streak in the local tournament for Platense. The team now prepares for their upcoming CONMEBOL Libertadores round of 16 match against Coquimbo.
