Pálava Protected Landscape Area begins rock stabilization on Olivetská hora
Conservationists at the Pálava Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Pálava) have initiated safety works on the Olivetská hora massif near Mikulov. To mitigate the risk of falling rocks threatening lives and property, experienced climbers are working to remove loose boulders and weathered fragments from the Jurassic limestone cliffs.
The project involves removing invasive vegetation whose roots expand rock fissures, manual cleaning of loose parts, and local securing of specific blocks where geotechnically necessary. Experts determined that preventive removal of hazardous stones is more effective and cost-efficient than installing massive barriers.
The maintenance work, which includes the use of pneumatic hammers and drills, is scheduled to continue until the end of October. The initiative is funded through a national subsidy program for the management of inalienable state property in specially protected areas.
