Playa del Carmen administration implements various municipal programs

The municipal government of Playa del Carmen, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, has launched several initiatives focused on public service, security, and tourism.

In terms of social services, the “Chambamanía” program was held at the Luis Donaldo Colosio Sports Unit to provide medical consultations, legal advice, and administrative services to local residents. Additionally, the municipality is prioritizing health through diabetes and obesity prevention programs, reporting over 1,300 nutritional consultations.

Security efforts include a professionalization course for police officers from Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Cancún, focusing on legal reporting and the chain of custody. Regarding economic development, the administration presented the LATAM Luxury Summit 2026 and the Janal Pixán cultural event in Mexico City to attract high-value international tourism.

Environmental and educational programs are also underway, including mediation efforts regarding the Chen Zubul area to protect local flora and fauna, and the “Cultivemos el Civismo” program to promote civic values in local primary schools.
