Playa del Carmen government coordinates with hotel security to protect tourism

The government of Playa del Carmen is strengthening coordination with hotel security leaders to protect tourists and the local hospitality industry. During a meeting at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya, officials discussed the necessity of continuous work, technological investment, and political will to maintain safety in the region.

As part of the ‘Operativo Blindaje Quinta Avenida’, security forces from multiple levels of government have conducted significant operations. Between January and September 2026, authorities reported 1,332 specific operations, 8,424 inspections of people and vehicles, and 2,905 preventive patrols. Additionally, 2,176 forms of assistance were provided to foreign tourists, and 102 coordinated operations were carried out involving the Secretariat, SEDENA, the Secretariat of the Navy, and the National Guard.

Surveillance capabilities have also been enhanced through a network of 84 fixed cameras and 37 PTZ motion cameras. These devices provide coverage for the tourist corridor, Fundadores Park, the Maritime Terrestrial Federal Zone, and Fifth and Tenth Avenues.
