Playa del Carmen launches social inclusion and language training programs

The municipal government of Playa del Carmen, led by President Estefanía Mercado, has launched several social inclusion initiatives in Quintana Roo.

To improve services for indigenous populations, more than 35 public servants are participating in Maya language training. Facilitated by the Indigenous Affairs Unit, the workshop covers basic communication, including the alphabet, greetings, and verb conjugations, to help overcome language barriers and ensure citizens can receive attention in their native tongue.

Additionally, the government is providing free workshops focused on autonomy for people with visual impairments. Held at the Jaime Torres Bodet Public Library, these programs include basic and intermediate Braille instruction, as well as training in computing and accessible speaking technologies. The initiative aims to provide practical tools for independence and reduce barriers to learning.
