Playa del Carmen to Open First “Mexico Imparable” Community Center
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and Subsecretary Miguel Torruco Garza inaugurated construction of the first “Mexico Imparable” community center in the Palmas 3 neighborhood of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo. The facility is part of a national strategy to prevent violence by addressing its root causes and will serve more than a thousand children and young people daily.
The center will offer a boxing gym, a running track, covered courts for volleyball, basketball and football, and spaces for artistic activities. Mental‑health professionals will also be on site to provide counseling. The project is one of an intended 100 such centers across Mexico, with a second location planned for Cancún. Completion is expected within roughly 90 days. The program is a public‑policy initiative of President Claudia Sheinbaum, designed by the Secretariat of Security and Protection of Citizens, which is headed by Omar García Harfuch.
