PlayStation 2 classics recreated for browser play via AI
A developer known as “Slayoner” has released unofficial, browser-based versions of the PlayStation 2 classics FIFA Street 2 and Need for Speed Underground 2. These recreations utilize artificial intelligence to allow users to play the titles directly in web browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox without requiring traditional installation.
While the projects offer features such as full-screen support and instant recognition of USB Xbox controllers, technical testing has revealed limitations. Need for Speed Underground 2 experienced slow loading times, while FIFA Street 2 showed graphical glitches and instabilities during gameplay. The sites are hosted by the developer, are free of advertisements, and function as non-profit initiatives.
Because the franchises are owned by Electronic Arts (EA), these versions are unofficial and subject to copyright regulations. The developer has expressed a willingness to respect any decisions made by EA and has indicated interest in collaborating on official alternatives. The project highlights ongoing discussions regarding the preservation of “abandonware”—software that is no longer sold or supported by its original creators.
