PlayStation 3 RPG Legacy and BioWare’s Uncertain Dragon Age Future
The PlayStation 3 console generated a generation of influential role‑playing games, including titles like Dark Souls, Mass Effect 2, Demon’s Souls and many others that continue to shape modern RPG design. A recent guide lists 25 essential PS3 RPGs, highlighting both well‑known classics and hidden gems that remain playable and affordable in 2026.
Meanwhile, BioWare’s flagship series Dragon Age is effectively dormant. Former producer Mark Darrah said the chances of a new Dragon Age entry are very low, and internal resistance would block outside studios from taking the project forward. Darrah also noted past attempts to remaster the original trilogy stalled due to limited familiarity with the Aurora engine. Fans and commentators suggest BioWare could instead revive the overlooked 2005 title Jade Empire with a full remake, leveraging current market interest in action RPGs inspired by Asian mythology.
