PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X face repairability and security debates
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X continue to be compared regarding hardware design and security. Technical analysis indicates that the Xbox Series X is generally easier to repair due to its modular configuration and spacious design. Its components, such as the GPU, processor, and RAM, are organized into distinct units, and the console features a large fan for better ventilation. In contrast, the PlayStation 5 has a more compact, integrated internal layout that can make component access more difficult.
Regarding software security, a new tool named ‘Relapse’ has emerged on GitHub, allowing users to jailbreak the PlayStation 5 directly through its integrated web browser. This method exploits vulnerabilities in both the web browser and the system kernel to gain elevated privileges without requiring hardware modifications. The tool is reportedly compatible with system software versions 7.00 through 13.60. While this allows for the execution of unauthorized software, developers warn that the process carries risks, including potential system crashes or data loss.
