PlayStation 5 Relapse exploit targets firmware up to 13.60
A new jailbreak exploit for the PlayStation 5, known as ‘Relapse’, has been publicly released, targeting a significantly wider range of system software than previous methods. Developed by a group including Nathan Fargo (ntfargo), the exploit is compatible with firmware versions ranging from 7.00 up to and including 13.60.
Notably, the exploit affects both the standard PlayStation 5 and the newer PlayStation 5 Pro models. Unlike earlier jailbreak methods that could take up to 50 minutes to load, Relapse reportedly completes the process in just a few seconds. The exploit utilizes a combination of a WebKit browser vulnerability and a kernel exploit to gain read and write access to the system memory, allowing for the execution of unauthorized software and payloads such as etaHEN.
Consoles that have already updated to firmware version 14.00, released in mid-September, remain unaffected. Because the jailbreak is temporary and must be re-applied after every system reboot, it does not represent a permanent modification of the hardware. The release has raised concerns regarding software piracy and has prompted discussions about the security of digital game licenses.
