PlayStation 5 Pro faces global shortages following GTA 6 reveal
Demand for the PlayStation 5 Pro has surged globally following the release of a 26-minute gameplay preview of Grand Theft Auto 6. This spike in interest has led to widespread stock shortages across major retailers in the United States, Europe, and Australia.
In the United States, the console is sold out at most major retailers, driving prices on secondary markets like eBay up to approximately $1,300, significantly exceeding the $899 manufacturer's suggested retail price. Similarly, in Australia, major stores including JB Hi-Fi, Amazon, and EB Games report being out of stock. In Europe, resellers in France and Germany have been seen charging up to 1,431.95 euros.
Beyond the impact of GTA 6, Sony has previously implemented price increases due to global economic pressures, specifically the rising cost of memory chips driven by high demand from AI data centers. Additionally, US tariffs have been cited as a contributing factor to increased costs for the American market.
