PlayStation 5 storage error can be fixed using Safe Mode

PlayStation 5 users have reported a recurring bug where the console displays a ‘not enough storage’ error message despite having ample free space on the SSD. This issue often prevents game updates from installing and can trap users in a loop where the system repeatedly prompts them to free up space.

The error may stem from improper console shutdowns that corrupt how the system counts available storage. To resolve this without deleting games, users can boot the console into Safe Mode. This is achieved by powering off the console completely, then holding the power button until a second beep sounds. Once in Safe Mode, users must connect a DualSense controller via a wired connection and select the ‘Repair Console Storage’ option to run diagnostics and fix the error.

As an additional way to manage space, users can disable the automatic recording of trophy videos in the console settings to prevent small video clips from accumulating over time.
