PlayStation 6 component costs estimated to reach $960

Estimates for the production cost of the PlayStation 6 (PS6) have risen significantly, with component costs projected to reach approximately $960 by mid-2026. According to projections from hardware leaker Kepler_L2 on the NeoGAF forum, the bill of materials (BOM) saw a nearly 26% increase between March and June 2026.

The primary driver for this price hike is the rising cost of memory. High-speed memory modules, potentially around 30 GB of GDDR7, are estimated to account for roughly $300 of the total cost—more than double the cost of the AMD-designed APU, which is valued at approximately $110. This surge is attributed to a global shortage of DRAM and GDDR memory, as data centers dedicated to artificial intelligence consume vast quantities of high-bandwidth memory.

It is important to note that these figures represent only the raw cost of components and do not include assembly, logistics, marketing, or retail margins. Sony has not officially confirmed the console's name, specifications, or launch date.
