PlayStation 6 component costs may approach $1,000, pushing retail price above $1,000

Leaked estimates from hardware analyst KeplerL2 show the bill‑of‑materials for Sony's upcoming PlayStation 6 has risen from about $760 to roughly $960 per unit. The increase is driven by higher prices for RAM, SSD storage and other semiconductor components that compete with data‑center and PC demand.

If Sony bases the console’s retail price on these material costs, the final price could exceed $1,000 (around €1,050–1,200), well above current premium smartphones. Sony has not confirmed any specifications, launch date or pricing, but the estimate suggests the company may need to raise margins, offer multiple versions, or rely more on subscription services to offset the higher production expense.
