PlayStation exclusive Wild project faces cancellation
The ambitious PlayStation exclusive project ‘Wild’, led by developer Michel Ancel, appears to have been cancelled following years of development limbo. Originally announced at Gamescom 2014, the game was intended to feature a massive open world spanning approximately 10 million square kilometers, a scale comparable to the size of Europe.
Developed under Ancel’s Wild Sheep Studio, the project promised innovative mechanics, such as the ability for players to control various animals—ranging from bears for combat to rabbits for stealth, and even insects like ants. Despite early gameplay demonstrations at Paris Games Week and Sony registering the trademark in 2019, updates on the project became increasingly sporadic.
Industry insiders suggest the project was halted following Ancel’s departure from the industry in 2020 to focus on creating an animal sanctuary. While a playable version with a solid technical foundation reportedly existed as of 2018, the game's future remains uncertain after nearly thirteen years since its initial reveal.
